Pierre
Every year we make it up to Pierre to attend the VHA Jamboree.

This statue is called the Fighting Stallions. It was made in the dedication of our governor George Mickelson, 5 Business
men and 2 pilots that were killed in a plane crash. One pilot was Dave Hansen who was originally from Plankinton.

The ride down the Needles Road
All of these pictures (except the last one) are taken at an overlook. I stood in one place and just keeped
turning as I took the pictures and they go in that order.

 

The trip down the Iron Mountian Road
If you travel the Iron Mountain Road from Custer to Mount Rushmore you go through 3 tunnels. Every time you
come out of a tunnel you face Mount Rushmore. There is also a section that they call the Pigtails, this is where the
road makes about 3 complete tight circles going down.
You are supposed to honk before going through the tunnels. One lane trafficThese are big enough for a bus to get through but he better not weave or it gets scratched.You can see Mount Rushmore on the rightAnother view of Mount Rushmore as viewed coming out of the tunnel

This has REALLY changed since the mid 80's when I was there last. The faces is the only thing the same.
